This is my scratchbuilt/kitbash 1/72 Yt-2000 OTANA from the video game X-wing Alliance.
A newer model in the the Correlian Industries popular Yt series, this model featured the same saucer section design but had a central cockpit tube rather that the starboard style of the Yt-1300 and Yt-2400, apparently to make docking opporations easier.
The symetical design of this ship just begged to be built and displayed with my other Yt's. Of course the whole process was made easier because I could bash from an MPC Falcon. I took the side walls, docking rings, top and bottom turrets, guns and several other bits of greeblies. I didnt go overboard with the greeblies as this ship isnt as souped up and the Falcon. It doesn't have extra armor plating, illegal sensor systems, tons of aftermarket parts or 3 droid brains.
The initial build started with the top view of the ship being blown up to about 15 and a half inches. The Otana is 29 meters long so I'm in the 1/72 ballpark. Styrene ribs were then glued to a central core and covered with more styrene to form the hull. The cockpit tube was realized with the help of a laithe and turning some wood. I didnt bother with the cockpit itself as I don't really need to see little men at the controls.
All in all I'm very happy with it and to have it sitting with my other Yt's is very satisfying.
