Batman Forever Batmobile

By Bill Spencer

This is Revell's 1/25 Batman Forever Batmobile. One of the most notable features of the 1:1 car was the blue glowing engine panels, and I wanted to simulate that on the model. Glow-in-the-dark paint from this place provided exactly what I wanted.

Before I applied the paint, I covered the inside of the ribs with metal foil. This not only protected the plastic from the paint, it also provided a strong reflective surface to make the glow paint stand out more. I used the paint straight from the bottle, painting over the foil sections with the included brush. The wheels also received a layer of glow paint, applied directly to the chrome (you can spray Dullcote right over the glow paints with no ill effects). I also wanted to make the roof fin hinged, like it was on the 1:1 car. To do this, I cut out the base of each fin half, then glued sections of plastic tubing to the fin halves. When the fin halves are together, the tubes line up to create the hinge. A hinge pin was made from stainless steel rod, bent at the ends to go down into the car body. This allows for some vertical movement when opening or closing the fin, to prevent paint scraping and to be sure that the fin is seated correctly in both positions.
