Explorer-class Mini

By Terry Miesle

The Earth Alliance Explorer Class vessels are designed for long-ranged extended duty in the frotiers of space. They perform jumps in uncharted hyperspace, carefully navigating farther than humans have ever travelled. Once they reach a star system of interest, the crews of the Explorers construct small, temporary jump gates. A jump gate acts as a beacon in hyperspace, allowing other ships to find the newly discovered system.

Explorers are big (two miles long) and self-sufficient. They grow their own food in limited quantities, can replenish their fusion reaction mass, carry shuttles, fighters and support craft. They can repair their own ship and in emergencies, can repair other ships or space stations.

Explorers are named for historically important explorers like Magellen, Vespucci, Columbus, Leif Ericson etc. As Captain Sheriden told the crew of Babylon 5, 'take a good look, people, you're lucky if you see an Explorer-class vessel once in your life,' these ships are a rare sight, as they spend most of their time well away from other humans. The job is addictive for certian types of people, and the crews tend to be long-term career Earthforce.

The Agents of Gaming miniature is one of the fleet-scale miniatures, at 4.5 inches long, it's certianly the largest of them. It is six pieces, and all the copies I've seen have been very well cast. The mini is painted with Tamiya and Reaper Miniatures Pro-Paint acrylics.
