NX-01 Enterprise

By Matt Katchick

Here is my Polar Lights NX-01 kit. I built this over about two months. Most of the time was put into the painting. Assembly was pretty easy. There were only a few parts that were warped and need a little trimming to fit. I put it together in three major sub assemblies. The lower saucer, the upper saucer, and the engine nacelles and pylons. When the engines were done I attached them to the upper saucer and then prepared for paint. I went with the three tone paint scheme on the instructions. First came a coat of gray primer. Then I put on a coat of aluminum metalizer and masked off areas for the next color, titanium, and the same again to the last color, gun metal. When all the masking was removed the model seemed way too dark in color so I lightened it with a light coat of steel over the whole thing. Next came installing all the windows and gluing the two halves together. Last was painting and applying all the detail pieces.
