USS Enterprise

By Kevin Stooksbury

This is the 1983 incarnation of the AMT original series Enterprise. I modified this kit very heavily, including replacing the bridge structure, casting new nacelle domes from resin, vac forming a deflector dish, and cutting down the deflector housing with a razor saw. I also modified the engine intercoolers, cut apart the rectangluar pieces under the engines, reworked the shuttle bay, added clear navigation lights and a clear landing beacon over the shuttle bay, and built recessed areas into the engineering hull using ribbed sheet plastic. Aftermarket decals were used, and I based the paint job on the restoration which was done by the Smithsomian on the original studio model. I know some quibble about the accuracy of the Smithsonian restoration, but I feel that all the weathering and panel lines give the model (especially the AMT scale version) a lot more visual interest and detail.
