USS Enterprise-E |

I have just finished building the USS Enterprise-E from the movie 'Nemesis'. This is virtually an OOB kit, however, I added the extra weapons that were in the movie. I added the four extra phasers (that should have been there in the first movie) onto the pylons. I also added the aft torpedo launcher just behind the bridge as well as the one above the shuttlebay. I also included the two upper bow forward firing ones. The color scheme is my usual Testors Acrylic Camo Gray and Light Gray. I also used ST Modelers decals for the darker hull panelling and details. Those decals were very nice. I only had a few problems with them. I don't know if mine were from an older printing, but, the ship's hull number for both the upper and lower saucer were curved backwards. Instead of reading them from head on, you could read them from the aft forward for the top one and Bow to Aft for the Lower ones. I had to cut them individually and place them on. The other problem that I had with the decals were with the 'sensor triangles'. They both would go onto the same angle. I placed the Port side on first and that worked fine. When I went to the Starboard side, it would not go on properly. I had to flip it over and place the glue side UP. Fortunately, I use Micro Set and Sol. Those were really the only problems that I had with the decals. They were still very good. I recommend them. After I finished painting the ship, I painted the windows as well. I used Reaper's Ice Blue for the lit windows, and Testors Enamel Euro Gray I for the dark ones.
After I had finished with the windows (which takes me about 5 hours I also changed the deflector dish a little. I read in the book "Star Trek Sketchbook: Movies Generation and First Contact", John Eaves wrote that he wanted to add a little homage to the original show (and ship) by adding the 'sensor triangles' underneath the saucer. I felt that I would do the same. Instead of painting the deflector as the instructions stated, I painted mine Tamiya Acrylic Copper (in honor of the Original Deflector Dish) and painted the inner area Reaper Cornflower Blue (in honor of the first movie).
I know it's not canon. But it's just a model, and I am an artist, and I like the blue deflectors better than the The bussards were an experiment to make them seem more like the real ones in that I used Testor Clear Red and blotched it on (to make the brighter, more intense hydrogen color) and backed it with Testors Acrylic Black in a thin coat. Behind that I placed aluminium foil. It kind of worked, if a bright enough light hits it, it looks good. The display base is from a ST:FC kit. I removed the lettering and symbol from the base, leaving only the ship's name and Registry. After painting it black and putting on the starfield I painted the lettering and the border with Testors Acrylic Silver. For the Star Trek:Nemesis, I cut that from my DVD cover (and replaced it with the Chapter list on the inside. I like that picture more anyway), and trimmed to fit the base. I then spayed over it with Glosscoat to protect it from the elements. It's not a bad kit. Especially if one wants to take the extra time out to put the added weapons onto it. Then it looks great.
