USS Guilford NCC-20894

By Aaron Smith

The Guilford is part of the ongoing series of Centuar-class variants to come out of Starfleet Yards. Built around the same time as the first Nebula-class starships, the Guilford’s saucer and warp engines are recycled from an older Excelsior-class ship, the Exeter. The only modifications and rebuilds on the ship are her warp nacelle struts, her compact underside hull and the shuttlebay extensions. Her photon torpedo cannons (seen on the top of the ship) were part of a prototype design for outfitting Nebula class cruisers with a photon torpedo “rollbar” akin to the older Miranda class. The design never made it to the Nebula—the torpedo cannons balanced the Guilford-variants’ weaponry so well that 5 Guilford-variants were built on the side of the Centuar-class line. (The Guilford-variants are the USS Oxford, USS Guilford, USS Roxboro, USS Raleigh and the USS Asheville.)

Guilford is, like the Centuar-class, an Excelsior saucer and warp engines with a Miranda-class rollbar serving as the warp struts and hull. Her photon cannons come from an A-10 kit, the mounts for the cannons are part of a Junkers JU-88 kit and the shuttlebay extension is all styrene, custom-built.
