Flash Gordon Meets Star Wars

By Clyde Jones

I admit it. This isn't a 'real attempt to match the SW universe". Instead, it's a fun conversion from a 'most modern TIE' design to a semi-traditional 'Flash Gordonesque' one. And, yes, the panels are from that overly expensive gold plated (deleted) release of the TIE interceptor. It's amazing how cheap they got after dealers realized that no one wanted a $7 kit with a $34 price tag. (Modelers may be slightly crazy, but we're not stupid.)

It started with a flying model rocket nose cone, stand supports from the Revell Mercury/Gemini set (one of the best sources for engreeblement in history), a vitamin bottle, and the obvious SW bits. Oh, and some tank tread for 'detail'.

Emperor Ming, meet Darth Vader.
