TIE/Construction Drone (CD)

By Chris Marks

The TIE/CD (Construction Drone) is an unmanned craft piloted by a droid brain. This type of TIE would be found buzzing around the hulls of Star Destroyers in 'Dry Dock' and the superstructure of the two Death Stars. The pincher arms allow for the transportation and placement of various materials and the welding 'nose' is full articulated. The small size of this craft allows for the drone to fit into some tight spots. The tie has two sets of maneuver jets, two under the arms and two more omni directional on the back of the sphere. The solar panels are small, limiting the range of this craft. This technology is the forbearer of the TIE/Droids used during the Empire's attack on Mon Calamari.

The TIE/CD, which is about 1/35 scale, was built using a TIE interceptor pod and wings, which were trimmed down. The arms were made using the landing gear. The welding nosepiece was made from a Gundum part from my parts bin, and Millennium Falcon landing gear. The hose is a melted cable from Anakin's pod racer. The rest is bits from my parts bin.

I base coated it using spray blue enamel and then dry brushed a mixture of Hippo Grey and ivory over it, the I applied a heavy black wash and filled in the foils and the windows with black markers.
