Klingon Bird of Prey

By Tony Inkster

This is my Bird of Prey model built straight from the box. My experience of building this model was a good one, the kit itself is fairly well detailed, fits together without to many problems and looks like the real thing.

I elected to build the kit with the wings in the cruise mode. Originally I intended to modify the wings so that they could be moved but I then decided it looked much better with the wings up - this also allows me to place the ship in a 'landing' diorama at a later date.

The painting of the kit took the most time, the primer was applied and rubbed down without any problems but the chosen shade of green (Humbrol medium green) seemed to be quite thin.

As a result four coats - two tins - had to be applied for the desired finish. I then set about painting all of the wing panels flat brown, I hope I never have to do that again - I almost went blind!

The kit has had a wash of flat black paint applied along with some battle damage. I still have to apply the few decals the kit comes with and paint the stand, but the ship already makes a good addition to my Trek collection.
