The ORCA is the heavy hitter for GDI in its ongoing war against the forces of NOD. It carries an array of standoff attack weapons or deadfall/guided bombs. It has a crew of two and utilises VTOL propulsion technology of both Jet and Hi-VOL Fans. After the experiences gained with the first version of the ORCA some improvements to propulsion, armour and layout have taken place. This is the newer, more deadly ORCA Bomber Mk2. Based on the excellent computer game, Tiberian Sun, this model started with a pair of Italeri 1/48 Apache Longbow Helicopters to provide the tail booms and other parts. This model is loosely based on the pictures on the previous page and the Original Game Icon seen to the right. However, I wanted to individualise the model so I decided to do a MK 2 version so I could incorporate some of my own details and designs such as the change of fan layout, inclusion of a tail fan and more intakes. Extensive plastic card scratch building and use of scratch building materials such as brass, etch sets, greeblies from the spares box and solder. The main fans are from a 1/35 Bandai Gundam kit. The original plan was to use PC Fans in scratch built housings, but the Gundam kit fans looked much better and much more appropriate. These fans were modified by changing the mountings to suit this model. Engine mounts are brushless motors from PC Fans from the original fan plan. Figures are Prieser 1/48 Modern German Aircrew, modified with extra pockets, helmets detailed and weapons. They serve to scale the model to give an indication of size.
