NX-01 USS Enterprise

By Bob Funk

This is my Polar Lights 1:350 NX-01.I like the shape of the ship. It makes a nice change from the usual 1701 or Refit ship configuration.

The kit is a Polar Lights 1:350 scale NX-01, built off and on over a 4 month period. The kit is painted with Testors metalizer paints for the aztec design, which was the most time consuming part. The AztecDummy templates are a godsend, and really do speed up the time-consuming pattern proccess. The warp engines are colored with a clear blue Tamiya acrylic paint, to give them their blue tint. Clear stoplight red was used for the warp caps on the front.

Decals were applied using decal set, then sealed with "satin finish" clearcoat, to make them "hug" the hull. I really like the shape of the ship, and have loved it since seeing it in the pilot episode. I think it's a nice deviation from the classic Enterprise, or the Refit shape. I did consider lighting the kit, but opted not to. I think I'll save that task for my next project: the Polar Lights 1:350 Refit!
