Although the Defiant had sustained severe damage, this “tough little ship” held its own until the Enterprise came to save the day from the Borg. Here is a replica of the battle damaged Defiant. Built using the AMT/ERTL kit, this model was modified to show the hull breaches and other battle scars.

The kit was first painted and detailed. The hull was painted light gray and the rest of the detailing consists of medium gray, light and dark blues. The hull breaches were made by cutting open the hull with a dremel. I heated the inside edges of the breach to soften and warp the plastic. The detailing underneath each breach was made using various scrap pieces from a battleship model and an old X-wing. Each piece was painted black then glued underneath the opening. I used black pastel to weather the surface of the ship.
