USS Renegade Star

By Kenneth Milano

Here is the USS Renegade Star, a Miranda Class kitbash that I had been working on for the last six years. The ship is a Blockade Runner, built to break through enemy lines and get munitions and supplies to front line starships during the Dominion War.

Six years ago, I was looking at a Runabout and Reliant model side-by-side and decided the ships were destined to fit together. The Runabout pylons looked good on the sides of the Reliant, the sensor pod looked like an updated weapons pod, and the Runabout warp core spine fit perfectly on the back of the Reliant.

Here are a few things I added to the kitbashed design:

  • An armored bridge (protect that hood ornament)
  • A glowing blue defector array (like all other Fed ships).
  • Glowing red nacelle ramscoops (like all other Fed ships).
  • Phaser strips
  • More photon/quantum torpedo tubes
  • Experimental Photonic Cannon (Emergency Command Hologram design)

I used parts from old model kits, (a Robotech model, a Star Wars Virago and B-wing). I even added additional cargo space below the shuttlebays/between the deflectors by using the back part of an E-D. I changed the shape of the windows on the engineering hull to a more "Next Gen" look, and added a landing pad for a runabout.

I really like how the Nebo shield made a great armored bridge, how the Runabout sensor pylons made defector arrays, and the fit of the E-D ramscoops on the Reliant nacelles.

The asteroid with the shuttle was added after I realized that the 4 "C" batteries for the lights would not fit into the base crammed with wiring. The build went though alot of changes over the years, but I am really happy with the final results.
