Lunar Postal Delivery Van

By James Lowe

To go with the Moonscope. with its the trailer, this is 'lunar-ized' postal delivery van started life as a MPC Ultravan kit. This kit is rather old and I believe dates from the mid-70's. I recently came across it as a re-sale item at a local hobby store and was impressed by its 'spacey' qualities. This seemed like a good project to bring it out of my stash. It's actually in 1/32 scale, unlike the Moonscope and trailer which are in 1/25. When judged against the astronaut - an item from Dragon - it's not too implausible in size, and it fits nicely on the trailer.

I removed all its aerodynamic body do-dads and filled them in. The exhaust got removed too. The retro orange plastic body was base coated with flat-black and then fogged with Krylon white. The bumpers were fogged with gold. Gray powdered chalk pastel was brushed on the assembled model to simulate moondust and was fixed in place with Tester's Dullcoat. The side-mirrors are from a Dodge Ram-50 pickup and you can see the other add-ons are from a Moonscope donor. The decals are a collection of odds-and-ends.
