Calypso II |

|
Scale: Not stated Much like its namesake which took Jacques Cousteau on his many journeys of exploring the Earth's oceans, this vessel is leading the way in exploring the stars. The inspiration for the Calypso II came from the Discovery from 2001. I also felt that a long, thin shape just seemed right for a ship that is intended to travel in a straight line at great speeds for a very long time without turning. I also wanted a design that kept the engineering spaces far away from the habitable areas of the ship. I made the spine from discarded plotter pens and disposable razor covers were used for the engine assembly. The remainder of the body is cardboard, sheet styrene and many ever-useful bits from my spare parts box. |

There are a dozen individual pieces in the forward sensor array alone. I built a dorsal shuttle bay with a sliding door to house landing vehicles and other utility craft.
