Rescue Unit #9 is a state-of-the-art mobile search and rescue station equipped for deep space operations.

Designed for rescue work, it is equipped with a “Mega-grappler” Jaws of Life unit on one sponson which is capable of multiple operations - simple grappling, prying open gashed hulls, and clamping to smaller vessels. It has an internal airlock adaptor for standard lock connections. The other sponson has a Multi-lock adaptor for soft docking to almost any configuration. Underneath the vessel is a “Crash Hatch” or hull breaching mechanism for use when normal airlock facilities are compromised, which leads directly to the trauma unit onboard.

Rescue 9 is not equipped with long term medical care facilities, but rather with short term triage and health stabilization systems suitable for on-site emergency treatment and transport to more expansive hospital stations. Think “space-going super ambulance” and you have it.

It is also equipped with quite strong paramagnetic grappling systems and oversized thrusters enabling it to clear or manipulate wrecked hulls or installations, or to preform emergency hauling of damaged spacecraft.

The model is assembled from giant robot parts - and HO gauge ladder sections for the thrusters. It was an experiment in quick construction from stock parts.
