Sponsored in part by Clyde 'Zog' Jones. Thanks!

by Jason Smith

Scale: 1/8

Lord Fury is a former member of the Emperor’s Royal Guards. After he lost his arm foiling an assassination attempt, he was of not further use to the Emperor. Governor Tarkin, rather than let all of that training go to waste, made him security chief of one of his pet projects while the Death Star was under construction. A new cybernetic arm was not the only change in him, as his imperial condition began to fade.

Eventually he stole a ship and headed out on his own. He soon made a name for himself as a pirate. Eventually he amassed a large following and extensive fleet, even colonizing his own moon.

This is my first attempt at doing a figure conversion and using Magic-Sculpt. The kit started life as a Spawn figure. I removed all distinguishing features from the kit with the exception of the bands around the right thigh, as I knew I would use these for his holster. The body was rebuilt and armor created using Magic-Sculpt.

The real trick came to building a face from the blank Spawn mask. The lines of the mask were filled, and a nose added. The hair, beard, and eyebrows were then added and groomed using various sculpting tools and an exacto knife. The gun belts and holsters were molded and designed so that the guns would actually fit. The weapons were made entirely from styrene.

The armor was painted with titanium metallizer then covered with a semi clear blood red layer to give it a dark red metallic color. The whole figure was sealed with a flat clear coat. The armor was then given a coat of semi-gloss.

The base was made from styrene sheets. The walls are a hollow structure, with Magic-Sculpt used to blend the edges. The Imperial logo was cut from a very thin sheet and laminated to the back wall. The shadow was created using a custom mask and then painted using clear tamiya smoke paint. A second mask was added followed by another layer of the smoke. This gave the depth of shadow to reveal the texture of the Royal Guard.
