Scale: ~1/72
This is Metal Gear Rex from the smash hit 1998 video game Metal Gear Solid.
After playing this game way back when and playing the remake on the game
cube I had to make a model of this vehicle. It is roughly 1/72 scale and
100% scratch built, mainly using Evergreen sheet styrene and rod. The
toughest portion of the build was the radar dish. I used the papercraft
model as a base template for the major parts and proceeded to modify them so
I could construct it out of plastic.
The paint job was done by airbrushing
Tamiya light blue (looks more like a duck egg blue to me) and Tamiya RLM
Grey for the camo pattern. The other paint details were done by hand and
also done in Tamiya paints. The model was then postshaded with Tamiya Nato
black and given a wash and drybrush session using winton oils.
