VF-11D Jamming Bird

[Thanks and Hail! Zog]

Sponsored in part by Clyde 'Zog' Jones. Thanks!

by Brian Beargie

Scale: 1/100

Clearly one of the more obscure Macross mecha, the VF-11D "Jamming Bird" caught my eye early on. It was one of the transforming jets in Macross 7, an interesting (albeit my least favorite) of the Macross series. Apparently, the protaganists in Macross 7 harnassed sound as a weapon. The VF-11D comes standard with modified FAST Super Booster Units, which provide additional thrust and space for the "Sound Energy System". The Jamming Bird variant was never mass-produced during the Macross 7 war. Only 20 craft were produced by Three Star Industries, and only one squad of six fighters was actually used by the Macross 7 forces.

The kit is produced by Wave and is 1/100 scale. It comes in white resin. It has polycaps to make legs and arms very poseable. It even includes screws to enable the Sound Energy System open and close on the fast pack boosters. I painted the kit with Tamiya Acrylics and applied an oil wash. The base is the Macross kite logo produced by modelbaseguy. I drilled a hole and bent a clear acrylic rod to hold the VF-11 Battroid in standing position.
