Scale: N/A
It’s Monday morning, and the neighborhood kids get some help crossing
the street from their favorite crossing guard on their way to Gundam
Elementary.
The crossing guard is a Sumo, 1/100 scale, which came pre-finished in
metallic gold. I had a few issues getting the joints to go together
firmly, but other than that it was pretty straightforward. No
alterations, just no weapons. His stop sign is plastic tube, the sign
itself paper and plastic.
The kids, in order from left to right (all built without weaponry)–
- SD Gundiver. I had to putty the notch in the front of his helmet. Used paint for the eyes, rather than the stickers. He’s carrying a Jetsons lunchbox (layered plastic & paper pictures).
- Maschinen Krieger “Snake Eye”. Only assembly required was attaching an arm.
- Macross Regult, which screws together. I converted the front antennae into eyes.
- SD Zaku II Custom. Puttied the notches in the side of the helm, which then had to be painted.
- The Zaku’s big brother, the Mobile Goohn, is 1/144 scale. Puttied the lower torso, and so had to paint that. Used paint instead of stickers for markings.
The base is Ready Grass Vinyl Mat, used with the Road Kit. Marked and
moistened the grass for removal where the street would be, scraped it
off and let dry. Marked and painted the street (took two coats), then
painted the sidewalk (paint included in the kit). Scribed in the street
markings, using the guides included in the Road Kit. Used tape for the
crosswalk itself. Borrowed the Micro Machine cars.
Paint’s all done by hand. This is my first model build: learned
trimming, filling and sanding, painting, how to follow picture
directions, and that Ready Grass is pretty cool stuff!
