TIE/Fighter

by Daniel Holmes

Scale: 1/72

Fine Molds 1/72 TiE Fighter is as close to a 'shake and bake' kit as I've ever built. Everything fits together nicely, seams are hardly noticeable, and it looks accurate. This was built using Microscale's Micro-weld non-toxic liquid cement, Gunze Sangyo acrylics, and Daler-Rowney Georgian oils for washes. It took somewhere around 15 hours to completely finish. The decals were the hardest part, some were only a millimeter or two across, and can't even be seen at arm's length. The model is built completely box stock, including the paint recommendations. The decals come are from the third option in the kit. I thought it looked different enough from the other TiE fighters I've seen, but I have no idea what the markings mean.

I learned quite a bit on this model: How to mask effectively, how to wash with oils, and how to fit parts together so no fillers are needed. These are relatively expensive kits, but I think I got my money's worth.
