Genesis Climber Mospeada: Legioss and Tread

by Marc Remy

Scale: 1/72

In 2050 the Inbit invade and quickly conqueror the Earth. The survivors that could get away flew to the Mars Colony to regroup. In 2080 the First Liberation attempt was made and failed. The Second Liberation attempt was made in 2083 with new equipment, but like the first one failed. Some of the new equipment used was the Legioss and Tread fighters.

This kit is based off the anime series Genesis Climber Mospeada, or better known in the United States as the Alpha and Beta fighter from Robotech New Generation. The first time I saw this fighter combination on Robotech I fell in love. The sleek design and the idea of combining a small, agile fighter to a larger, faster fighter was appealing. It was ten years after that when I found out a model kit was made and the search began. Three years later I found one on ebay, the Newtype 1/72 Legioss and Tread resin kit.

I enjoyed putting this kit together. It was straight forward, easy to assemble, and required little sanding or putty.

The first thing I decided to do, once construction began, was to replace the resin Legioss fighter in the kit with the Imai 1/72 AFC-01H Legioss fighter. The Imai kit had far better detail then the resin Legioss. Painting was fairly straightforward with only a few primary colors. The primary colors used where Model Master Enamel (MME) Grabber Blue, MME Insignia White, and MME Gun Metal. Many other MME and PollyS colors were used so I won't bore everyone with listing them all. The whole model was sealed with Future Floor Finish.
